Ulster Colleges GAA – Ennis Cup Football
St Killian’s 5-5 Beech Hill Monaghan 1-4
St Killian’s go through to the Ennis Cup quarter-final after this 13 points win that was achieved by fantastic starts to each half.
They started the first half with 4 points in the first 4 minutes, 3 from Cormac McKeown and the other from Brogan O’Connor.
However they struggled from then until half-time and only poor shooting prevented Beech Hill College getting closer than 0-5 to 0-2.
However half time advice was taken on board and we put the game to bed with 4 goals in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half.
Joe McLaughlin palmed home the first, Eamon Ward slotted home the second and then John V Morgan crashed a ground shot off the underside of the bar. Eamon Ward fired home the fourth after more excellent approach work involving the twin McSparrans, Patrick McIlwaine and Cormac McKeown.
Although Beech Hill came back with 1-2, sub John Mitchel was in the right place to force John V’s effort over the line.
Ollie Kerr was secure enough in goals and defence tight enough apart from the period coming up to half time. Attack was both very good and at other times poor.
Top performances from Matthew Black, Mark and Aidan McSparran, Cormac McKeown and Patrick McIlwaine.
St Killian’s now play Finn Valley in the quarter-finals next week.
