Situated on the shores of Lough Neagh, Aghagallon is a rural club with a rich Scór tradition. Since the mid 1990s, Aghagallon have competed in all disciplines of Scór and have had huge success at Provincial and National levels, winning 2 All Ireland titles and 12 Provincial titles in that time. Scór was started by the great Agnes Hannon RIP. Her legacy lives on in the success of Scór in the club.
Aghagallon are proud to have the Rince Foirne team in the All Ireland Final this year, after many years of success at County Level and many disappointments in the Ulster Final. The girls have danced together in Scór since a very young age and so this makes their success very special to them. We are delighted for the team who dance the Cross Reel so beautifully . Aoibhinn, Erin, Éadaoin, Ciara, Louise, Caoimhe, Emma and Angela, you are a credit to your club and County. A special mention to Caitlin and Cliodhna, who have been members of the dancing team up until this year when they turned 17 and were too old for Scór na nÓg. This group of dancers have appeared on the “Scór Encore” tv show and also performed for former GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail at the launch of the Scór All Ireland Finals in Belfast.
The Léiriú Stáitse (formerly known as Novelty Act) is entitled “Three wishes for the 50th year of Scór” and is made up of Éadaoin, Úna, Zara, Meabh, Daniel, Ciara, Oisin and Paddy Joe. Becoming Ulster Champions for 2 consecutive years has been a dream come true for these young people and no doubt they will continue to do everyone proud in Castlebar.
Having 2 acts from one club in the All Ireland is a fantastic achievement and for it to happen in the 50th year of Scór is something that is very special to everyone in St Mary’s Aghagallon. The last time the club had 2 acts in an All Ireland was in 1998 when the Novelty Act and Ballad Group competed in Athlone.
The success of Scór in the club is down to the love that the community has for the Irish traditions and culture and we have no doubt that this will continue to thrive in years to come. It is a team effort and everyone works together to support the Scór teams in any way they can.
Aghagallon are having an AllIreland send off for the groups in The Woodville Arms in Lurgan on 12th February 2019 at 7pm. This is a chance to see the groups perform and to wish them well. Everyone welcome.
