Creggan were well worth their seven point victory at St Patrick’s Park, Ballyvoy on Wednesday evening when the men from the Loughshore maintained their unbeaten run in Division 2 of the All County Hurling League with a win over Carey Faughs.

The opening quarter was fairly even with Creggan opening the scoring with a Kevin Small point, the home side got into their stride and went two ahead with scores from Fiachra McVeigh, James Black and a fine point from Conor McBride after collecting a long Cathal McAuley sideline cut. Further points from the visitors through Rory McCann (3) and one each from Oran and Conor McCann stretches their lead to three before a James Black free left a two point lead for a very good Creggan side after the first quarter.

Creggan were now getting the upper hand and built up a lead they would never relinquish, with a further two points from Oran McCann and two Conor McCann points. Carey replied with points from Gerard McBride and Cathal McAuley, to leave their team’s halftime deficit to four (0-10 to 0-6).

After the resumption the Carey comeback appeared on as two points from James Black and one each from Shea Hunter and Martin Hunter left the sides level with thirty seven minutes played.

After a break in play for an injury, the visitors appeared to gain the initiative though, with three Oran McCann points from frees and two Kevin Small points to leave them five ahead with forty five minutes gone. Carey were now struggling to stay in the game with both Oran and Conor McCann pointing for the visitors the opened up a gap..

Matt Hunter and Cathal McAuley pulled a couple of points back for Carey’s, but they were to be the only two scores in the last quarter, and when the full time whistle was sounded Creggan had seven to spare 0-19 to 0-12.
