ACFL Div 2
Sarsfields 0.11 (11)
Tír na nÓg 1.9 (12)
A goal from wing-half-back, Peter Cullen turned this keenly contested game on its head as Tir na nOg continued their recent improvement to pip Sarsfield’s and take both points at the Bear Pit last night.
The ‘Paddies’ looked to be in the driving seat when they led their South West rivals by three points midway through the second half but the Whitehill side put an excellent attacking move together, culminating with Cullen’s finish to the net and it proved a turning point.
Lee Martin and Ciaran Dobbin, who were prominent in attack throughout started to find space as Sarsfield’s attempted to push forward, both splitting the posts to put Tir na nOg three ahead with eight minutes remaining.
The home side gave it everything in the closing stages to salvage something from the game and were rewarded with a couple of points but the Tir na nOg defence in which Sean Paul McAtamney, Darren McCormick and Peter Cullen were in fine form, held out for a hard earned win.
