ACFL Division 2
St. James’ Aldergrove1-15 Naomh Padraig Lisburn 1-9
In a very entertaining game of football in the sunshine, Aldergrove beat a Lisburn side determined to try and get a win in their last game before the split by 6 points. Aldergrove got off to a blistering start in the match scoring 3 points from play from S McGarry, F Burke & C Morris with some fantastic movement from the inside forward line before Lisburn bounced back with a quick ball into their full forward who created havoc in the box before being taken down for a penalty that was duly scored by Denver Taggart bringing the game level again. Aldergrove went straight back up the pitch and notched another 2 points through S McGarry and F Burke before Denver Taggart notched another placed ball to bring the game back to 1 again. Lisburn were causing problems when they got the ball in quickly to Josh McMullan in the full forward line but unfortunately this didn’t happen enough for them in the 1st half and Aldergrove rattle off another 4 points in the half whilst Lisburn managed another 2 from placed balls. The Half time score was 0-9 to 1-3 with Lisburn not having scored from play.
Naomh Padraig came out strongly in the 2nd half and managed to bring the game back to a one point game through some fine scores with Tighearnan O Meallaigh to the fore but Aldergrove kept their heads in front through scores from F Burke, S McGarry & C Morris before the killer blow was landed by F Burke with a goal resulting from a turnover from St Pats kick-out. This really knocked the stuffing from Lisburn and Aldergrove scored another 2 points from E Masterson & G Mallon to run out 6 point winners. The two teams meet again on Wednesday in the 1st game after the split at Kirkwoods.
