U16 Hurling All County League Div 2
Lavey 7-6 All Saints 5-8
With both teams short on numbers and having to play 13 a side, Lavey and All Saints served up an enthralling game of hurling that had just about everything. Some great scores, superb saves, big tackles and excitement! It had it all. A good start from Lavey saw them take the first 3 points before Saints Aodhan McGarry replied with a goal and a point. Another 2 goals for Lavey saw them open up a bit of a gap but again back came Saints with a goal and a point from James O’Boyle. Another goal and a point from Lavey meant they had a half time lead of 5 points. Points from Kevin O’Boyle, Aodhan McGarry and TP at the start of the second half reduced the lead but another burst of goals from Lavey stretches the lead again to 9. Kevin O’Boyle and James O’Boyle fought back with a goal apiece then 3 unanswered points from James O’Boyle brought parity. Back came Lavey with another goal and point. Fintan Brady made this a single point game with a neatly taken goal with about a minute left. James O’Boyle dropped a 65 short and an almighty goal line scramble ensued with the sliothar somehow falling the wrong side of the post for the Saints boys. From the resulting poc out Lavey superbly fielded the ball and a wonderful solo run ended with yet another sweetly taken goal to leavethe Derry side four point winners. Both teams can take pride on producing an excellent display of hurling. An exciting game that went all the way to the last seconds unfortunately had to have a losing team but without doubt entertainment was the big winner on the night
