Laverty’s goal proves the difference as Shamrocks go through.

Antrim Intermediate camogie semi-final

Tír na nÓg 0-10 Loughgiel 1-10

Champions Loughgiel took a step nearer retaining their Intermediate title when they saw off the challenge of Tír na nÓg in Thursday evening’s semi-final at Whitehill. The exchanges were close throughout with little to chose between two evenly matched teams an in the end it was a Orlagh Laverty goal that gave the Shamrocks the edge. Things looked good for Tír na nÓg when they took a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 25 minutes through Áine Devlin (3) and Niamh Martin (2), but the champions hit back with three frees just before the break from Charley McCarry to close the gap to the minimum on the turnover.

McCarry added a point on the re-start to level up the scores, but it was Laverty’s goal in the 36th minute that turned the tide and had the home team chasing the game.

From then until the end it was a battle of free-takers with Áine Devlin closing the gap to two points close to the end only for Megan McGarry to make the game safe for Loughgiel with a long-range free in the 59th minute.

Meanwhile in last night’s Intermediate Shield semi-final, Dunloy beat Naomh Eoin Belfast by 3-10 to 0-3 to set up a final with Ballycastle.

Loughgiel : Orlagh Laverty 1-1, 0-1 free, Charley McCarry 0-5, 0-4 frees, Megan McGarry 0-2 frees, Katie Lynn 0-1 free, Annie Lynn 0-1.

Tír na nÓg : Áine Devlin 0-7, 0-6 frees, Niamh Martin 0-3.
