Antrim Senior Camogie Championship

Loughgiel 9-32 Cushendall 0-7

By Seamus McAleenan

LOUGHGIEL sent out a clear warning last night in their final group game that they want a sixth successive Antrim senior title when they hammered home 9-32 against last year’s finalists Cushendall.

The result means that the Shamrocks will be playing Dunloy in a derby semi-final next month with Cushendall having to dust themselves down to play Ballycastle.

Speedy winger Caitrin Dobbin raced clear for four first half goals with the Laverty sisters adding two more and the teams turned around with Loughgiel ahead by 6-8 to 0-5 and Orlagh O’Hara posting all five points for the sea-siders.

There was no let up during the second half, although there were just three further goals, Dobbin bringing her tally to 5-5. However the movement from midfield up and the point-taking at times was breath-taking.

Elsewhere there were wins in the Junior championship for Ahoghill and Armoy and the pair meet on Saturday in the semi-final. The first Junior semi-final will take place later this (WEDNESDAY) evening in Glengormely between Gortnamona and Creggan.

Loughgiel : Caitrin Dobbin 5-5, Christine Laverty 2-5, Anna Connolly 1-3, Ciara Laverty 1-2, Emma McMullan 0-9, 3f, Roisin McCormack 0-6, Lucia McNaughton 0-1, Amy Boyle 0-1.

Cushendall : Orlagh O’Hara 0-7, 4f
