With Camogie in growth up the Hightown its been the sevens at the end of each year which has been the highlight of the calendar. In 2017 it had 16 teams, in 2018 it had 12 teams.
In 2019 Gavin Curran, the originator of the sevens, had previously ran it as a one man show, has now decided to create the sevens Committee of volunteers and the increase in help has allowed more focus on sevens promotion, this year 22 teams will take part.
Among the teams sees Naomh Eanna Camogs good friends Eire Og of Wicklow in attendence for their third year running, it’s also seen the increased attendence from Antrim clubs, some clubs had to be turned down given the sheer volume of interest. The Hightown too will play host to Caenn Criege Camogie club of Glasgow a team on their first ever outing. The teams come from across 8 counties and two countries for whats should be an exciting day at Pairc Eanna.

What started for Curran, also senior coach and club Camogie coordinator, was a concept after coaching at Kilmacuds Crokes in Dubli a few years back is now a reality. The work is going on in the background to create a colour programme, full day of Camogie, all teams catered, all followed by a nights entertainment in the club.
Gavin who chairs the sevens committee praised his colleagues looking after sevens ” our committee has been meeting since April we’ve been meeting weekly this past month, this sevens will be great for the promotion of sevens in our club, every commitee member has been instrumental in making this big. Were in each other houses going round businesses torturing visiting clubs the lot, we want to make this the biggest yet. Were only 4 year old as a Camogie club after myself and Maeve reformed the camogie and the sevens is to increase development and participation, and it does it wonderfully.”

Proceedings will begin 11:40am with first matches throwing in, free in at the gate. Plenty of room for young ones to puck about. We are just requesting patrons to park at Edmund Rice College to stop congestion in the club with hundreds in attendance. Feel free to call up there’ll be refreshments on sale in the club shop club gear and hurls.
