County Camogie Development Cup Final
Naomh Eanna v Rossa
Sunday 12 noon @ Hightown
The development cup a new competition brought in this year for new sides and new development teams. It’s run on a round robin basis with the top two facing off in the final, in it’s first year sees Naomh Eanna v Rossa seconds who’ve played a couple of fiesty games this year already.
Rossa go into Sunday’s Development Trophy Final remaining unbeaten throughout the League Season. They finished top of Division 3C after winning all their matches although it has to be said that Naomh Eanna ran them close in both league meetings.
The Championship saw Rossa defeated in the first round by a strong Creggan team. After a disappointing Championship run they would be keen to finish the season on a high with a winning result on Sunday.
To get a favourable result, Rossa will have to rely on the strength and experience of players like Grainne Connolly up front and Lauren Slane in defence. Important players like Eimear Matthews, Michaela Press and Niamh Semple will have to be in top form whilst the younger and committed players of Caragh Shannon, Ciara Loughran, Grace Shannon, Orla Boyle and Aisling Walsh will have an important role to play if the Development Trophy is to reside in the West Belfast club for the coming year.
Naomh Eanna in their third year at senior have had a tough couple of years, winning their first competitive games this year. The youth system is set to flow quality into the senior side with captain maeve Curran being an ever present for her club and a rock in defence the young players have plenty to aspire to, her defensive team mate and vice captain Nicole Norton too must be on form for this game, the goal keeper Rebecca Monaghan will be important on the day in the face of a strong rossa full forward line.
The Naomh Eanna youthful forwards such as Dearbhaile McGivern & Cliodhna Kane should pose problems for Rossas defence, though the supply from Marie McDonalds half back line will be vital. Gavin Currans charges must be on top form if they are to overcome their opponents on Sunday any chink the armour could be critical, they’ve come a long way but are facing a team that’s already turned them over this season. If they can reach their early season form which saw them defeat Brocagh in Ulster junior shield final we could be in for a cracker up in the hill.
