Antrim Ladies Football – Minor Final
Moneyglass 14-12 Con Magees 2-2
Moneyglass powered their way to victory over Glenravel with a magnificent display of fast skilful football in Tuesday evening’s Antrim Ladies Minor Football final under the lights at Quinn Park Ballymena. The Con Magees girls battled bravely against the odds but they were left chasing shadows against a St Ergnat’s side who were simply unstoppable, scoring an incredible total 14 goals and 12 points. The were 6-4 to 1-1 clear at the break but that was just a sample of what was to come and they added a further eight goals in the second half and you can sympathise with a Glenravel fan in the crowd who quipped “where is Ciaran Cavana when he is really needed”.

It took a while for the champions to find the target but when corner forward Hannah Murray goaled in the sixth minute the scores began to flow. Naimh McKeefrey added a point from a free on ten minutes before player of the match Maria O’Neill goaled on 13 minutes and midfielder Aoife Kelly got her team’s third soon afterwards with a great finish.
Glenravel opened their account when Aimee Traynor pointed on18 minutes and when she added a goal a minute later there was a glimmer of hope for the girls in green. However that hope was soon extinguished as Moneyglass steam rolled their oppnents for the remainder of the half, adding a further 3-3 to lead by 6-4 to 1-1 at the interval, the goals coming from Kelly, Murran and O’Neill.
Glenravel had brief spell at the start of the second half which saw them mount a couple of promising attacks but they all came to nothing as Moneyglass defended really well and minutes later the floodgates opened. Emma McAreavy and Naimh McKeefrey grabbed goals and three more points were also added before the elusive Aimee Traynor got her second goal for Glenravel.

Within thirty seconds of Traynor’s goal Aoife Kelly had the ball in the net at the other end of the field with a cracking finish and Sarah O’Neill came up from half back to bag another one a minute later. Maria O’Neill added another with a classy finish. Naimh McKeeefrey hit another major on 50 minutes and there was still time for Maria O’Neill to hit her fifth of the night before the final whistle.
