Antrim Masters met Belfast City Council (BCC) at Woodlands 4G pitch on Friday 25th Oct. The event was to recognise the GAA work of Pearse McCormick on the 1st anniversary of his passing and raise money for his charity NI Hospice.
In front of his family and a good crowd for a wet Friday evening the game was played in a competitive spirit. Pearce wouldn’t have wanted it any other way or as his wife Denise said “he would have loved to play a game like this”.
The game was played on a large flood lit pitch with unlimited subs. BCC had a large panel which shows the great work Pearce did setting up the team.
Over 3 off 20 minute periods the ball moved up and down the pitch with lads not so young and not so old taking in plenty of air. Accents from across Ulster could be heard shouting for the ball. BCC started the brighter but Antrim Masters came more into it with their possession type game honed through the 2019 GMA season.
Final score BCC 1-11 to Antrim Masters 3-4.
Some lads hadn’t played football in a while but all agreed that it was great to get out there. Everyone then went back to Casement social club for refreshments (big thanks to St Agnes GAA) and stories.
