Aghagallon and St. Enda’s to claim quarter-final places

Under-21B Championship

Aghagallon’s win over Glenavy on Sunday last completes the line-up for the next phase of the competition which continues on Sunday with the split into two sections A, and B.

The A section commences on 17th Nov with four quarter finals but there are a couple of preliminary games in the B grade on Sunday to decide the final two quarter-final places in that competition.

Sunday 10th Nov

Under-21 B (round one)

St Mary’s Aghagallon v Erin’s Own Cargin (11.00pm)

Cargin proved no match for their near neighbours Creggan in their only outing to date and although the Toome men collected the minor title this term they have really been affected by the new rule which precludes 17 year olds from lining out in this competition.

The Erin’s Own side had included over 50% of that age group within the ranks of the successful minor side and with a lengthy injury list to contend with they have struggled to make up the numbers.

Aghagallon lost out on day one to a good Dunloy side but have recorded wins over Glenravel and Glenavy and will be one of the favourites in the B competition.

The St Mary’s side have proved strong at under-18 level over the past couple of years and they may well prove too strong for their visitors in this one.

The eventual winners will line out against the winners of the other first round game where St Paul’s play hosts to St Enda’s.

St Paul’s v St Enda’s

St Paul’s will play host to St. Enda’s in this opening round game with the visitors starting as firm favourites.

The Shaw’s road side are working hard in under age development but their programme may well take a couple of years to ensure impact in the older age groups.

However St. Paul’s did run a good Tir na nOg side close in the qualifying section and on the evidence of that performance may not be too far away on Sunday.

St Enda’s lost out to St. Johns in their opening game but recorded an impressive win over Lamh Dhearg on day two and looked useful on that occasion and that 1-16 to 0-06 win underlined their potential.

The eventual winners will travel to meet up with either Aghagallon or Cargin in the quarter finals.
