St Killian’s Garron Tower 6-11 Loreto Coleraine 1-5

THREE goals and two points in the first seven minutes from the St Killian’s Garron Tower forwards made sure that this semi-final replay in the Liatroim Fontenoys’ Cup was not going to follow the pattern of the drawn encounter a fortnight ago.

Loreto had set the pace in that game but it took them 23 minutes before Eimear Maguire opened their account from a free. By that point the Tower had clocked up 4-4 and had one foot in the door of the final.

Monique O’Boyle opened the scoring with a goal in the second minute and Clodagh McPeake and Niamh Graham quickly added two more to give St Killian’s a dream start.

Graham added a second goal in the 20^th minute before Loreto gained a little in confidence with Maguire on target from two frees and there was a glimmer of hope when Cara Kearney scored a goal in the 29^th minute, resulting in a half-time difference of 4-6 to 1-2.

Although Eimear Maguire added another Coleraine point on the re-start, St Killian’s got up and running again with a free from Niamh Graham and Clodagh McPeake’s goal in the 33^rd minute cut out any chance of a comeback from Loreto.

McPeake completed her hat-trick in the 42^nd minute and, with Graham, Sine Woodhouse and Abi McNeill at centre-half back all playing well, the Tower eased into a final meeting with St Colm’s Draperstown next week.
