Ulster College’s Ladies U16 Shield Final
Sacred Heart Omagh 5-7 St. Killian’s Garron Tower 4-2
Sacred Heart Omagh out-scored St. Killian’s Garron Tower in an exciting Ulster College’s U16 Ladies Shield final at Meadowbank Stadium in Magherafelt today. Led by the superb Kerri McGlone the Omagh schools ability to take their scores proved the difference against a ‘Tower’ side who didn’t really come to life until the second half but just couldn’t turn good possession into enough scores.
The North Antrim girls got off to a good start and after Kerri McGlone pointed Sacred Heart into an early lead their opponents took the lead through an Aisling Mulholland goal with eight minutes gone.
That lead was not to last however as player of the match, McGlone hit back with a goal for the Omagh girls and points from Clara Mossey, Aine Reilly and an Aine Reilly goal saw them move further ahead by the 10th minute.

The Tower were enjoying their share of possession but too often sent hopeful balls into the Sacred Heart defence where Seana Cassidy gathered everything that came her way before instigating swift counter attacks.
An Eamer Butler goal in the 12th minute closed the gap to four but St. MacNissis failed to build on this score and it was Sacred Heart who stepped up a gear to finish the half strongly. The excellent Kerri McGlone replied with a point and a goal from team captain, Justine Harkin left the Tyrone College seven in front at the break.
An Aine Reilly goal, early in the second half saw the Omagh College move ten clear and at this stage St. Killian’s looked in danger of being over-run but they dug deep and started to run at their opponents with Clodagh McPeake leading the way.
Eamer Donnelly’s second goal of the game after ten minutes gave them renewed hope but they continued to look vulnerable on the counter attack and were punished as Kerri McGlone replied with a couple of excellent points.
The Garron Tower girls were enjoying a lot more possession at this stage however and an Aisling Mulholland goal after 17 minutes kept them in touch but despite a period of sustained pressure they were unable to find their way through a strong Omagh defence where Leanne Coyle and Seana Cassidy excelled.

Late points from Kerri McGlone and a Clara Mossey goal ensured there would be no way back for the Antrim side though they did keep going to the end but late points from Eamer Butler and Orla Donnelly was their only reward.
