Donnelly rolls back the years as St. Paul’s win

Senior Reserve Football Shield Group 2

Aldergrove 1-6 St. Paul’s 2-9

Aidan Donnelly rolled back the years as St. Paul’s defeated Aldergrove in the Senior Reserve Football Shield in Crumlin last evening. The 50 something Donnelly gave a polished display at the heart of the St. Paul’s defence and was director in chief in everything good his side did.

After a disastrous start and the concession of an early goal the visitors got on top holding the opposition scoreless from the 17th to the 52nd minute by which time they were very much in the driving seat.

Eoin Masterson gave Aldergrove the perfect start when he found the net in the 4th minute and points from Joe Donnelly, Ferghal Hanna, Luke Siclair and Anto Brown put them in a strong position but the visitors came back strongly with Aidan Donnelly driving them forward.

Goals from Ruairi Hamill and Alan Hyndman turned the game on its head as Hamill finished with 1-2, Hyndman 1-1, Caolan Rea 0-2, Conor Hughes 0-1, Liam Carland 0-1 and Niall McStravick 0-2 to put them in total control.

A black card to Joe Donnelly didn’t help the St. James cause and despite late points from Anto Brown and Michael Smart they never really looked like breaking down a solid St. Paul’s defence.
