Cushendun got their league campaign off to a flying start when they beat Con Magees Glenravel in Wednesday evening’s Division 4 opener in Cushendun. The first half of the game was fairly evenly matched and the  home team went  in at the break with a three point lead, but after the change of ends they started to control matters and eased away to win by 3-19 to 1-8

Sean McKay gave Glenravel the lead in the third minute but it  would be the only time in the game that they had their noses in front and  when Harry Kilgore opened his team’s scoring with a goal two minutes later they were off and running.

Two points apiece from Conlaoith McNeill and Conor McHugh, plus one from Tom Scally saw the Emmet’s open a sizable gap, but Glenravel staged a bit of a comeback and two points from Sean McKay, plus a goal and a point from Niall Donnelly helped them close the gap to three at half time. (Cushenun 1-8 Glenravel 1-5)

As it turned out that was as close as it would get for the visitors for after the break the Emmet’s took control of the game. They scored 1-4 in the opening ten minutes of the new half, the goal coming from Conlaoith McNeill, and though Declan Traynor gave Glenravel hope with a great individual goal on 44 minutes, it was to provide brief respite as Cushendun came back with 1-5 without reply, the goal coming from team captain Conor ‘Smiley’ McHugh. The last ten minutes were evenly contested with both teams adding three to their totals which saw the home side cross the line thirteen points to the good.
