Doherty Woodshavings Hurling League Division 1

Loughgiel 2-19 Ballycastle 0-15
Loughgiel travelled to Pairc MacUílin on Wednesday evening in the opening round of the All County Hurling League Division 1 and came away winners by 2-19 to 0-15. An early Dairmuid McShane point was soon cancelled out by one from Eddie McCloskey as the visitors got the better of the exchanges, hitting 1-4 without reply to take early control. Ciaran Clarke, playing at midfield, sent over two points from distance but Loughgiel came back strongly and had the next six in a row to race to a 0-13 to 0-6 half time lead.

Two more points at the start of the second half from Benny McCarry, and Donal McKinley were followed by a Sé Casey goal which put twelve between the sides, and even though Ciaran Clarke kept the home side in touch with three points, each time he raised a flag Loughgiel had a reply. Eddie McCloskey grabbed his team’s second goal six minutes from time and even though Ballycastle came back strongly with three points in as many minutes, the Shamrocks were able to match it with three of their own and had ten to spare at the end.
