St.Joseph’s Glenavy 0.13 v 2.12 St.Ergnat’s Moneyglass

The game was played at Glenavy on a bright sunny day but a strong breeze was blowing straight up the pitch which affected the scoring. .
This was definitely a game of two half’s, the visitors ran up 2.08 v 0.03 by halftime.
To their credit the Chapel Hill side fought back in the second period but just couldn’t get the vital goal to put the opposition under pressure.


It took the Marian Hill side nine minutes to get on the score sheet with a pointed free from Colm Duffin while the home side had chances to get on the scoreboard but over elaboration often resulted in losing possession. Moneyglass broke up the pitch won a free which Colm Duffin converted. Jimmy McMeel won the kickout and quickly got the ball into his forwards. The ball broke to Pat McCormick who calmly stroked it to the net. Glenavy were dealt a blow when they lost the influential Liam Henry with a shoulder injury before Jack McCoy pointed to leave his side six up at the water break.
From the restart Glenavy went on a rare attack and gained a free which Fergal Green fired over the black spot. Jimmy McMeel and Fergus Green exchanged points from free as did Jack McCoy and Stephen Doone to leave the score 1.5 v 0.3 in the visitors’ favour. We then had a scoring burst from the St Ergnat’s men as Pat McCormack and Colum Duffin fired over before Jack McCoy fired in a class goal for Moneyglass to leave the halftime score St.Ergnat’s 2.08 v 0.03 St.Joseph’s



Pat McCormick extended his side’s lead with a point just after the break to put his team six ahead but we then had a comeback from the orangemen as they knuckled down to make a fight of it. With scores coming from Fergal Henry (4), Connor Hamill and Fergal Green (2) the home team were suddely back in contention. Fergal Henry pointed a beauty from an acute angle to leave just four between the sides, but Conor Prenter pointed to ease the Moneyglass management nerves. Fergal Henry pointed a free to close the gap to four again but Colum Duffin settled the contest as he pointed two frees to stretch his team’s lead to six. Fergal Henry had the final score of the game for the home side as he sent over a point but the visitors were home and dry by this stage with the points safely in the bag.
