Loughgiel finish strongly to beat Carey

North Antrim Hurling – McCaughan Cup.

Carey 3.12   Loughgiel 3.21.

A slicker shamrocks side came out on top of this high scoring affair in Tuesday evening’s McCaughan Cup game against their hosts Carey Faughs at St Patrick’s Park, Ballyvoy. In a very competitive first half the shamrocks lead 0.12 to 1.8 at the break, with their scores coming from Shane O’Boyle 0.4, Frank Boyle 0.3 and points from Caolan McIlhatton , Pat Laverty,  Cathal Hagan, Cognac McFadden and Odhran McGrath, with the Carey scores coming from Martin Hunter 0.5, Sean P Coogan 1.1,  and points from Cahir brogan and Aaron Mc Bride.

On the resumption an early Martin Hunter goal gave Carey the lead, but this was short lived as the visitors were to find the Carey net three times in this half with goals from Odhran McGrath, McIlhatton and Hargan. A litany of points from a fine loughgiel side opened up a twelve point margin before a late Cathal McAuley goal for the Faughs, who gave game time to all their twenty players.
