Loaf sliced Loch Mór apart

Junior Hurling Championship

Cushendun Emmet’s 6-35 Loch Mór Dál gCais 0-12

Conlaoith ‘Loaf’ McNeill sliced Loch Mór Dál gCais open on Sunday in the opening round-robin game of the Junior Hurling Chamionship at the Riggs in Cushendun. The South West Antrim combination didn’t know what hit them as McNeill scored an amazing 3 goals and 19 points in his team’s 6-35 to 0-11 win, surely an Antrim championship record.

The visitors stuck with the Emmets in the early stages as David McNeilly and David McCullough fired over points, but once ‘Loaf’ got his first goal it was all one way traffic. Further points from McNeilly, Morgan and Turley kept the Loughshore men in touch, but in the last ten minutes of the half the scores came thick and fast for the Emmet’s as they went on to lead by 4-17 to 0-7 by half time, 1-11 of them coming from the stick of McNeill.

After the break it was more of the same as McNeill got a further 2-8, but to their credit Loch Mór kept plugging away and Conor Jones, Turley, Carson, McCullough and Morgan all their names on  the scoreboard, and they can take some consolation in the fact that they will not meet as strong a team in their other games.
