Good win for Ahoghill in Toome

U14 Div 1B Quarter Final

Cargin V Ahoghill

It was a lovely evening for a match and the pitch at Cargin was in good condition despite the recent heavy rain.  Visitors, Ahoghill dominated from the throw in with 3 goals in the first 10 minutes from Katie McCloskey, Niamh Graham and Grace Hardy.  Pressure on the Cargin goal was maintained and Aisling ODonnell split the posts from a 45 and a flurry of further scores from G Hardy, K McCloskey, Mollie Horan, Enya Neeson and A ODonnell saw Ahoghill with a comfortable lead at the break.

It was a similar story in the second half but Ahoghill had to work much harder for their scores as Cargin’s never say die attitude saw them fight tooth and nail for every ball.

Their young keeper Lucia Sidebottom was superb and the scoreline doesn’t reflect some of the shot-stoppers she pulled off.   Orla Johnston was solid at full back and worked tirelessly to overturn Ahoghill’s attacks. Roisin Quinn who put in a great shift for Cargin notched the home sides only score. Eimear McErlain, her younger sister Caomihe and Aoife OBoyle all showed well for the home side.  Ahoghill were strong all over the pitch, with the 6 scorers and Eabha Hardy, Caoimhe Scullion, Cassie O’Connell and Orla Neeson  strong in defence.

The Cargin side are young with many still a year or two left at U14 level and will no doubt be back stronger next season.  Ahoghill advance to the semi-final on Saturday when they travel to St Paul’s.
