A strong breeze & dry conditions aided Creggan in their 2.07 to 1.00 win against All Saints at St. Mary’s, Ahoghill today.

The boys & girls from the Lough shore hit the ground running keeping the momentum going for 15 minutes of the 1st half, scoring a goal & 6 points.  They then shifted their attention into the defence holding off the Saints and keeping them scoreless for the 1st half.  Donal McKay opened the account for Creggan after 3 minutes and with 7 minutes gone on the clock he increased his tally to 3 points – 2 from play and 1 from free.  The Kickham’s players continued to dominate with 2 further points on the 8th & 9th minute – Fintan Kelly & Oisin Devlin.   Kickham’s 5-point lead could easily be wiped out if the breeze continued in the 2nd half, however, their confidence increased when Ronan Colgan scored an excellent goal.  With 2 minutes to the break, Shea Graffin increased their score by 1 point leaving Creggan up 1.06 to no score at half time.

As referee, Kevin Gormley, threw the ball in for the 2nd half, it was now All Saints who had the wind behind them and pushed forward in numbers but they couldn’t break through the Kickham’s defence.  Time and time again, Connor McLarnon, drove the ball back up the pitch together with a few saves by Harry McKay.  All Saints’ only score of the game came after 30 minutes in the 2nd half when James McGarry, on his 4th attempt, scored a superb goal.   Kickham’s management continued to press for a strong defence but a 2nd half point from Shea Graffin, followed by a 33 minute goal from Fintan Kelly, finished the game as a contest.    To their credit All Saints never gave up continually putting Kickham’s team under pressure but the boys & girls from Staffordstown had the job done in the 1st half and their defence held true.

A huge thanks must go to referee, Kevin Gormley, who stood in at the last minute to steward the game at short notice.
