Dunloy and Cushendall play first final of the year at Dunsilly this evening

Senior Reserve Hurling Cup Final

Dunloy have full points from their four outings and have accumulated 139 points in total, while conceding just 65. They opened with a 5-25 win over St Gall’s in Dunloy before travelling to Loughgiel and winning by three in their tightest game of the campaign. In the return leg with the Shamrocks they had 12 points to spare, and in between those games they travelled to Milltown and ran up 8-24 against St Gall’s.

Going by the formbook Dunloy should go into this as favourites but games between these two sides, be it Senior or Senior Reserve, have been traditionally close affairs and I’d be surprised if this wasn’t close again tonight. Of course with both clubs having to grade just 15 players this season it means a lot of Senior players are available and Cushendall could have as many as seven or eight players who fielded in Saturday’s defeat to Rossa, available for tonight’s game. Dunloy also have quite a few seniors who are also eligible, but with them still being involved in the Senior campaign and will be a bit more reluctant to chance them. Last week against Loughgiel they only had two or three in action, but they were very impressive.

This promises to be another tough battle between two great rivals and if you can avail of a ticket it is worth the trip to Dunsilly
