North Antrim U14 Hurling Shield
Oisins 5-9 Ballycastle 0-6
Oisins Glenariffe had a big win over Ballycastle in Wednesday evening’s Under 14 Shield game in Waterfoot, winning by 5-9 to 0-6.
The two men who did the majority of the damage for the young Oisins were Orrin O’Connar and Peadar McDonnell and it was they who got the first two scores of the game in the fourth minute. Ballycastle pulled a point back through Conor Donnelly but two from O’Connor in the seventh and tenth minutes put the home team four clear. Ballycastle were much more competitive for the remainder of the first half and with Conor and Darragh Donnelly getting the scores they closed the gap to just two points at the break.
The game was decided during the third quarter when Glenariffe hit two goals and four points without reply, the points coming from corner forward Peadar McDonnell, all of them from play, and when the number 15 got his team’s opening goal there was no way back for Ballycastle. Orrin O’Connor added a second goal on 44 minutes before Ballycastle replied with two points from Darragh Donnelly frees, but the Oisins finished with a flurry of goals from Oisin Mort (2) and Phelim Ward
