Proud granny Doreen Cunning from Dunloy with her two grandsons who lifted championship trophies over the last two weekends. On September 13th Paul Shiels, son of Doreen’s daughter Ann (Cunning) Shiels, became the first man to lift the new Antrim Senior Hurling trophy when his team beat Loughgiel in the final in Ballycastle and six days later Colum Duffin, son of Doreen’s daughter Yvonne (Cunning) Duffin, lifted the Intermediate Football Championship trophy when Moneyglass ended a sixteen year wait at Dunsilly on Saturday. That victory was a little bitter sweet for Doreen as it was her beloved Dunloy who Moneyglass beat in the final, but as they say ‘blood is thicker than water’ and Doreen was still bursting with pride.
And while the two boys were captaining their respective teams grandaughter Danielle Duffin was a member of the Moneyglass team who won the Ladies Intermediate Football Championship by beat Naomh Brid in the final at Davitt Park two weeks ago. And it doesn’t stop there as grandson Chrissy Brogan (back left) won Senior Hurling Championship and Senior Reserve Football Shield medals, while DJ McKendry (front right) was also a member of the Senior Resevere Football panel. Others incuded are Feargal Duffin (2nd left) and Seanchann Duffin (back right) and Tiernan Duffin (front left) who also played a leading role in the Moneyglass title success –
