South Belfast Under 14 Hurling League – Division 1
St Johns 3-07 – Davitt’s 2-12
Davitt’s U14 hurlers travelled the short distance to Corrigan Park On Sunday knowing that a win would give them the league title after winning tough games against Rossa, St Galls and St Enda’s.
Sunday’s game against St Johns was a game of two halves; Davitt’s got the opening point and were hoping to kick on from there but playing with the breeze St Johns started getting the upper hand and took some nice points to race into a 1-03 to 0-01 at the first half water break. Davitt’s responded with two fine points to reduce the deficit to a goal but St Johns again responded to take the next few scores and held a healthy lead at half time of 2-06 to 0-03.
Davitt’s regrouped at half time and came out like a different team. With the helping breeze, they pinned St Johns into their own half and got the first few scores to bring it back to a 3 point game. Two quick goals turned the game and Davitts were now in the lead. To St Johns credit they again battled back and through a 21 yard free levelled the game as the sliotar hit the back of the net. With five minutes to go it was anyone’s game, but from a quick puck-out Davitt’s broke and got a super point. From the St Johns puck-out Davitt’s won a free which resulted in another point and from there they were able to see the game out.
