Dunloy hit the heights in derby opener

Under 15 Hurling League Division 1

Dunloy 6-14 Loughgiel 1-7

Dunloy got their Under 15 Hurling League campaign off to the perfect start when they beat neighbours Loughgiel by 6-14 to 1-7 in Thursday evening’s opening game at Pearse Park, Dunloy.

In a game when almost every one of their played excelled the young Cuchullains were on fire as they hit three goals in each half on their way to a big, big win.

It was one of those nights when nothing would go right for Loughgiel. They started promisingly and were 0-2 to 0-0 up after seven minutes, but once Ben O’Kane got Dunloy’s first score in the eighth minute there was no stopping them.  Padraig Martin added a point to bring Dunloy level and once Oisin McCamphill got his team’s opening goal two minutes later there was no stopping them. Sean Og Blaney got their second and though Loughgiel came back with a goal of their own from the stylish Roan McGarry, Dunloy full forward Charlie Cunning hit his team’s third to give them a 3-5 to 1-4 half time lead.

Ronan Fitzgerald hit the opening point of the second half to leave just three between the sides but Dunloy hit the next six points without reply. McGarry pulled another point for the Shamrocks on 16 minutes but three goals in the final quarter, two from the brilliant Oisin McCamphill and one from substitute Aidan Richmond saw the home side
