North Antrim Junior League
SHANE O NEILLS 3-22 GLEN ROVERS ARMOY 2-07.
Pics and report by Pete Hyndman
The rain fell at the start of this game but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of these two teams who hassled and harried for 60 mins…..

Referee Ryan O Reilly threw the ball in and within a few seconds young Kevin O Boyle had the ball over the bar for an early lead for the home side. Liam Mulvenna doubled the lead with a nice point from 30 yards and minutes later O Boyle hit the visitors net to raise the green flag!! Armoy’s Tarlach Mc Bride hit two good points between the 7th and 10th minutes but these where cancelled out with a barrage of points from the Feystown boys. Ciaran Magill hit a brace of scores, the latter effort after a 40 yard run, Daniel Black slotted over a “65”. Magill again with two more efforts followed up with Black getting another from out on the wing from a free put the home team in charge but Mc Bride for the Glen Rovers drilled over another converted free. Just before the break Glenarm began to turn the screw as they added another 4 points, a Dan Black double, and a point each from Magill and O Boyle to put their team in command at the break.
HALFTIME SHANE O NEILLS 1-12 ARMOY -04
There was to be no let up after the short whistle as Glenarm hit 1-03 without reply, all the scores came from Daniel “Black Magic” Black, two points from 30 yards, a converted “65” and a goal after a sideline cut fell in Armoy’s box. Emmet O Hara pointed for the away team before they got a lifeline when Trevor Linton sent in a high ball which evaded Niall Hamill and nestled in the back of the Glenarm net.
Black was enjoying the freedom of the pitch and drove over another point for the local team, but Armoy’s Mc Bride hit his fourth point of the evening, before Eoin O Boyle snuck in with a goal to keep the Glen Rovers men in touch. A minute later he also bagged a point, but the second half water break gave the home side a minute to refocus. On the restart the “Wee Terrier” Kevin O Boyle drove over a point and when a high dropping ball was fumbled by Armoys keeper Joe Mc Bride (who until this moment had pulled off 4 point blank effort’s) up popped Ciaran Magill to drive the ball into the onion bag!!
Halftime sub Sean O’Boyle was next to get a Glenarm point and half forward Conal Ward pierced the evening sky as he rifled one over the bar. The last 3 points where a masterclass of hurling to watch all coming from star player Ciaran Magill. The first two he found himself in space on both wings and the latter effort was from a lung busting run darting past tackle after tackle.
