Cuchullians in cruise control

All County Reserve Hurling League

Rossa 0-10-1-28 Dunloy

Kevin Herron reports from Rossa Pairc

The strength in depth in Dunloy hurling was very much in evidence at Pair Rossa on Monday evening when the Cuchullains ruthlessly brushed aside the challenge of a young Rossa team with a 1-28-0-10 win in the Senior Reserve League.

It was a steep learning curve for the young Jerimiah’s who went behind early on to a Ciaran Elliott point. Dylan Magee levelled through a converted free and would have to restore parity again a few minutes later after Kevin Molloy had nudged Dunloy back in the front.

The visitors then hit six-points without reply to gain a firm grip on proceedings. Molloy put his side in front for the second time with a fine angled point and Ciaran Eliiott was involved twice in scores from Oisin Elliott and Ronan Molloy.

Kevin Molloy notched up his third and fourth point in between a superb effort from Chris McMahon as his side held a 0-08-0-02 lead.

Ruairi Murray would land a fine score to momentarily break Dunloy’s momentum, but the North Antrim side came back with another six without reply.

Once again Kevin Molloy was involved- popping up with his fifth of the evening.

Chris McMahon and Oisin Elliott hit back to back points with Michael Murphy contributing two- one from a free and the other from play in-between Oisin Elliott’s third of the half. Ronan Molloy would add the last of the six scores in succession.

Rossa were in a perilous position trailing 0-15-0-03 with Dylan Magee notching his third score of the half from a 65’ to keep them in relative touch.

Dunloy would hit the net before the break, as Michael Murphy fed Ronan Molloy who lashed the ball high to the roof of the net to give his side a 1-15-0-04 half time lead.

The visitors extended their lead after the restart through points from Kevin Molloy and Chris McMahon.

The next four scores were equally traded between the sides as Conor Rocks and Dylan Magee (free) narrowed the deficit- but on both occasions Dunloy replied through Kevin Molloy and Liam McCann (free).

McCann would conjure up another from play and added another free shortly after.

Rossa relied heavily on scores from the placed ball with Magee converting his fifth of the evening and goalkeeper Phil Crean adding another in between a fourth point from corner forward Chris McMahon.

Liam McCann was doing similar damage from frees for Dunloy, with two further efforts bringing his personal tally to four and five in total for the half.

Rossa would reach double figures by the end of the evening thanks to points from Ruairi Murray and final Dylan Magee free that saw him finish the evening with six points.

But Liam McCann was equally was clinical adding three and another from play as Dunloy ran out convincing winners.
