Cushendall 1-12 Loughgiel 6-12
Loughgiel full forward Jack McCloskey ran riot during Wednesday evening’s Darragh Cup game in Cushendall, hitting an amazing five goals in this sides 6-12 to 1-12 win over the Ruairi Og.
The first half was really well contested and going into injury time the Shamrocks lead was down to a single point, until Ronan McCollum grabbed a goal and appoint for the visitors to put them five clear. Points from Joseph McLaughlin and Padraig McKillop early in the second half brought Loughgiel back to within one score and it appeared to be shaping up into another close half.
However McCloskey grabbed his second goal of the game on 38 minutes and added three more between then and the end to pull his team well clear of the danger.
A Frankie McCormick goal on seven minutes had put the home team 1-1 to 0-2 ahead before McCloskey gave the Shamrocks back the lead in the tenth with the first of his five goals. A point from Tiago McGarry and two from Ronan McCollum gave Loughgiel a bit of breathing space but Padraig McKillop kept the Ruairis in the touch some fine scores.
Things were looking ok for the home team when they go the first two points of the new half, that was until Jack McCloskey cut loose, hitting goals in the 40th, 55th, 59th and 63rd minutes to complete the rout.
