Pearses 6-07 Rasharkin 3-14.
The old adage of goals win matches was well noted as Pearses hit a shell shocked Rasharkin for 6 goals at Woodlands on Wednesday night to claim their first victory and Rasharkin’s first loss of the league.
Rasharkin started brightly with an early goal and point from Andrew Hasson but were quickly pegged back as Pearses hit a point and cut through for a goal to level things up. Rasharkin regained the initiative and followed up with points from Shane Hasson, Andrew Hasson, Killian O’Boyle and Cathair Henderson to leave the scores at 1-01 to 1-05 at the first water break.
Both teams traded points before Pearses got their second goal from a penalty after a black card was shown to Thomas McMullan on the stroke of half time. Half time score Rasharkin 1-09 Pearses 2-03.
The second half was a goal fest as Pearses struck first after 4 minutes before Andrew Hasson replied with his second of the night, but Pearses were finding the path to goal all too easy as they hit 2 quick fire goals in the 9th and 10th minutes to leave the score at 5-05 to 2-12 at the water break.
Pearses were flying at this stage and fired over 2 more points either side of their 6th goal of the night to open up an 8 point lead with 6 minutes left to play.
Rasharkin did fight back with a goal and a point from Seamus Ellis and late points from Donagh Quigg and Colm Kennedy but Pearses held out for a 2 point victory.
