Gort na Móna 1-8 Erin’s Own Cargin 4-21
County champions Cargin powered onwards and upwards at Gort na Móna on Wednesday evening when they beat the home side with a dazzling display of scoring in the Homefit Division 1 league. With a mix of youth and experience the Toome men were untouchable as they strengthened their position at the top of the table with another powerful performance.
Cargin started with three points from Tomas McCann, plus one from a 45 from goalkeeper John McNabb and one from full forward Jamie Gribben. Brian Burns got the home side on the scoresheet with a point on nine minutes but Cargin came back with a brilliant goal from corner forward PJ Quinn after a great move which ended with Tomas McCann picking him out on the edge of the Gorts ‘square’
Niall Henry and Padraig McHugh pulled a couple back for the home team but Cargin were relentless and pushed on to lead by 2-9 to 0-4 at half time, the second goal coming from Jamie Gribben on 26 minutes.

Playing down the slope in the second half Gort na Móna started well as Niall Mellaney pulled a point back but Cargin came back with points from Quinn and John Carron, plus a goal from Jamie Gribben. Thomas McGreevy grabbed a goal for the Gorts on 37 minutes with a neat finish from a narrow angle, but Benen Kelly grabbed his team’s fourth goal just before the second half water break, while PJ Quinn added a couple more excellent points. Gort na Móna battled on bravely, as they always do and Aidan McDonagh pulled a couple of points back but Cargin kept on coming and PJ Quinn put the seal and a great individual display with two more points, which brought his total to 1-5.
