Rossa 0-07 Loughgiel 6-16
By Darach O’Mullan
Loughgiel and Rossa met under the scorching sun at Rossa Park on Sunday afternoon in the Senior Reserve League, in a game where the Shamrocks showed the depth of talent in the club.
The match started off in Rossa’s favour as two points were scored by Conor Rocks, but the tide was quickly turned by points by Connall Kerr and Nicholas McNaughton and a superb goal by John Francis Connolly. A slick pass from Michael McGarry to Conall McCloskey sent him in for a second goal and the Shamrock fans didn’t have to wait too long for the third as Nicholas McNaughton fired home to leave the score at the first water break 3-6 to 0-2.
Rossa’s Michael Murray attempted to turn the tide again with a point, but his efforts were cast aside as Paul Boyle scored two consecutive points and Aodhan McFadden followed with another excellent point. Conor Rocks and Aidan Aicken continued to push for Rossa’s resurrection, but young Damian Quinn once more eased Loughgiel further ahead and by half time the Shamrocks were 4-12 to 0-04 clear.
Rossa began the second half with a stronger presence and this amounted to a point by Michael Close. However Rossa’s defence was put under great pressure as Loughgiel’s John Francis Connolly continued to press forward and with Michael McGarry providing great assistance, and victory was consequently cemented by a final two goals delivered by Connolly and McNaughton.
