After a sluggish start Ballycastle produced a strong performance to defeat Glenravel in Monday evening’s Junior Feis Cup football game at Pairc MacUílin. The visitors ran into a 0-5 lead before the first water break but after the break roles were reversed. Ballycastle dominated thanks to a strong defence and points from Conor Boyd 0-2, Eoin Magee 0-1 and Feargal Mc Kiernan 0-1 left them one point adrift at half time 0-4 to 0-5. The third quarter saw Caolan Mc Caughan open the scoring with a left footed shot to the net. Further points from Caolan McCaughan, Fergal “Digger” Mc Kiernan 0-2 and Conor Boyd had Mc Quillans a three point lead at the second water break.
Three consecutive points from “ Digger” and a fantastic penalty save from Tommy Mc Ilroy kept the home team in contention.
A goal and point edged Glenravel into a one point lead 2-9 to 1-11. As Ballycastle surged forward Seamus Mc Auley was dragged down in the penalty area and again “Digger” made no mistake from the spot. Nearing the last whistle Conor Boyd was on hand to finish to the net for a well deserved victory. Manager Conor Kelly was very happy with the end result but the sluggish start was cause for concern.
