Brian Og and Enda win championship medals in Western Australia
When we launched the Saffron Gael, just over four years ago we couldn’t have envisaged just how popular and successful it was going to be. Over six million views on the site to date and still rising rapidly! As well as having a massive following here in Antrim, Ulster and Ireland it is great to know that we have quite a following much further afield.
We have carried hurling and football championship reports from America where there has been a big influence from Antrim exiles and this week I received a message from Brian Og O’Neill from Rasharkin.
I know Brian Og from his days with Rasharkin footballers and he featured in a number of league and championship games against my own club, All Saints but haven’t come across him for a while.
Brian is living in Australia now and was part of the Sarsfield’s side who have won the West Australia championship, their sixth in succession to add to the league title. Oggy was joined in the successful Sarsfield’s side by former Rasharkin colleague Enda McFerran, who’s father Paul is the current Rasharkin hurling team manager, as the Sarsfield’s racked up a convincing 0-21 to 1-11 win over Western Swans.
Well done lads!
If you are from an Antrim club or have an Antrim connection and are now involved with a club in Australia, America, or anywhere else in the world and have a story to tell we’d love to hear from you. Send your story and relevant photographs to ptrckmclwn@yahoo.co.uk or john.mcilwaine@yahoo.co.uk
