Reserve Football Shield
St. Paul’s 1-8 All Saints 1-12
In an entertaining Reserve Shield Championship game at Shaw’s Road, All Saints picked up 2 points to give them a first win of the group stage. Both teams having lost their first games to Tir na nOg and Aldergrove respectfully.
In a low scoring first half, St Paul’s will have been disappointed to be level at the break at 4 points apiece despite dominating the game for long spells. All Saints scores coming from Oisin Connolly (0.2) and Aidan Scullion (0.2).
Both teams exchanged scores early in the 2nd half and the margin between the sides tended to be a point either way as the game ebbed and flowed.
However, prior to the 2nd water break, St Paul’s took a decisive lead with a good goal from their corner forward who latched onto a long ball and blasted it to net to extend their lead to 4 points as the 2nd water break approached on a score-line of 1.7 to 0.6. At this point, they looked to be in control and on course for the 2 points.
However, in the final quarter, despite losing Patrick Ferris to a black card, Saints grew in confidence and began their fight back with scores from Ciaran Campbell (0.1), Adrian Scullion (0.3) and Oisin Connolly (0.1) with St Paul’s only registering 0.1 bringing the game level as the clock approached the 60 minute mark.
Patrick Ferris, returning to the play with less than 1 minute remaining, was involved in a good attacking move from half back and scored the decisive goal putting Saints 3 ahead in injury time. Campbell completed the scoring with the final score of the game to leave All saints picking up the 2 points on a final scoreline of All Saints 1.12 St Paul’s 1.8.
