Lámh Dhearg edged out a low scoring affair with Creggan to get their Reserve Football campaign off to a winning start.

Visitors Creggan had the best opportunities in the opening quarter but Daniel Hartley in the Lámh Dhearg goals was in inspired form and was on-hand to parry away two goal bound shots.

It was the hosts who hit the front just before the water-break in the opening half through Anto Byrne’s effort that bounced over the bar.

They doubled their lead through a nice Shane McKenna point from the angle and Francis Dugan then converted a free to move them three-points to the good.

The Lámhs then conjured up the only goal of the game on 21 minutes, Declan Smyth slipped the ball into the path of Shane McKenna who played a one-two with Francis Dugan and then slipped the ball across to the full-forward who applied the finish and made it 1-03-0-00.

Creggan got on the scoresheet before the break with Joe McAteer converting from a free to ensure they remained in touch.

The visitors began the second period on the front foot and claimed the opening score through Mark Dougan- who swung over a terrific point.

Joe McAteer then curled over his second of the afternoon to make it three unanswered and half the deficit in the process.

Lámh Dhearg eventually sparked into life when Francis Dugan threaded the ball through to Shane McKenna for his second point of the afternoon.

At the other end Creggan cut the hosts defence open and were almost in on goal, Sean Donnelly found himself in space and floated the ball into the area where Mark Dougan palmed it goal wards- but Daniel Hartley produced an outstanding save to turn it around the post and behind for a 45’.

Dougan did double his tally a few minutes later after playing a short one-two and conjuring a nice score and Jake McAteer would add a further point for the Staffordstown Road outfit. It proved scant consolation though as Lámh Dhearg edged to a narrow victory.
