Senior Reserve Cup Hurling semi-final
Rossa 4-15 Dunloy 1-19
Goals from Callum McVeigh and Dairi Murphy in the final minutes of Monday evening’s Senior Reserve Cup Hurling semi-final in Ahoghill saw Rossa book a place in Wednesday evening’s final against Cushendall.
A flurry of scores on either side of the second half water break, which included a goal from substitute Alli Dooey, appeared to have put Dunloy in charge as they moved four clear by the 50th minute. However Rossa came back with three points in a row, and when left half forward Callum McVeigh picked up a breaking ball around the Dunloy square and fired it home from close range they were back in business. Declan Smith came back with a point for Dunloy, but a point from corner forward Gerard McPartland restored Rossa’s two point advantage and Dairi Murphy sealed it with goal from a penalty in injury time.
In an entertaining game Dunloy had a slight edge through the opening quarter and with Shane Dooey and Chrissy McMahon to the fore the led by 0-4 to 0-3 at the first water breaks. Rossa went ahead in the 17th minute when a free from distance by Eoghan O’Neill deceived the Dunloy keeper and dipped into the net and they went on to lead by 1-7 to 0-9 at half time.
Rossa held their lead until just before the second water break when an Alli Dooey shot deceived the Rossa keeper and gave the Cuchullains the edge, but Rossa’s strong finish, and those goals from McVeigh and Murphy saw the men from Shaw’s Road through to Wednesday evening’s final against Cushendall in Ahoghill.
