Strong third quarter sees Glenravel home

Senior Reserve Shield

Rasharkin 0-8 Con Magees 1-10

A strong third quarter in which they scored a goal and four points helped Con Magees Glenravel to a five point win over Rasharkin in Friday evening’s Reserve Shield game at Dreen.

Glenravel led by 0-4 to 0-3 at the end of the opening quarter through points from Joe Martin, Aidan McCafferty, Ronan Higgins and Martin McCarry while Conor McFerran and Gerard O’Hagan (2) got the scores for the home team.

The Glenravel men failed to raise a flag in the second quarter and two excellently struck points from frees by substitute Tiernan O’Boyle put St Mary’s 0-5 to 0-4 ahead at half time.

Glenravel took charge in the third quarter and a Daniel McQuillan point in the first minute drew them level. Ryan McQuillan put them ahead from a free before Aidan McCafferty fired home a penalty on 34 minutes. A great move which saw corner back Adam Campbell knock over a point and when Darragh Donaghy added another they were five ahead.

Rasharkin rallied in the final quarter and Conor McFerran and Pearce Kelly, a man with strong Glenravel connections, cut the gap back to a two. Tiernan O’Boyle hit his third point of the game to keep Rasharkin hopes alive but Glenravel finished strongly with points from Aidan McCafferty and Daniel Black to seal the win and earn a semi-final place against Aldergrove.
