U15C football final
O’Donnell’s 4-11 Naomh Brid 1-1
Cardinal O’Donnell’s turned in a power packed performance to sweep aside the challenge of Naomh Brid in the U15C football championship final at Dunsilly on Saturday. The MacRory Park side led 2-6 to 0-1 at half time by which time the game was well and truly over though the Musgrave Park youngsters never gave up the fight.
Michael Og Gastin pointed the O’D’s ahead early in the contest before Deon Walsh struck for the game’s opening goal and a couple of pointed frees from Fionnbar McKernan and another from play from Fontan McLaughlin put the Whiterock Road side in almost total control.
Deon Walsh was proving a real handful for the Naomh Brid defence and he got in for his and his side’s second goal and Fionnbar McKernan and Pearse Rice added points before the break with Luke Logue raising Naomh Brid’s only white flag in the opening half.
Naomh Brid needed a good start to the second half if they were to make any impression on the O’Donnell’s lead but it was the ‘Cardinals’ who refused to take their foot of the pedal and they started the second half as they had finished the first.

The beaten Naomh Brid side.
Fionnbar McKernan pointed an early free and Fontan McLaughlin and Conall Carville added further points and when McLaughlin and when Fiontan Keenan added goals the maroon and yellow ribbons were already on the cup.
The Musgrave Park side deserve great credit for the manner in which they kept going to the end and were rewarded for their efforts when Conor Flanagan fired to the net but O’Donnell’s replied with points from Fontan McLaughlin and Conall Carville as the Whiterock Road side ran out convincing winners.
This win should prove a great boost to the O’Donnell’s club and augers well for their future and team mentors John Rafferty and Gerard Sloan and their coaching team deserve great credit in the manner in which they have prepared their side with many of Saturday’s lineout having the potential to go on to represent their club at senior level in the future.
