U14 Girls Football Championship Semi Final
All Saints 3-09 St Johns 2-06
All Saints secured their place in the U14B Championship Final with a hard fought win against a determined and skilful St Johns team. The match took place at Woodlands with the County Hurling taking place up the road at Corrigan. All Saints settled into the game quicker with the strong running of Keeley O’Mullan proving difficult for the St Johns girls to deal with. Cadhla Crawford at Full Forward was also causing problems and the Saints girls manged to finish 2 goal chances in quick succession. First up was Cadhla Crawford who finished well to the net, quickly followed by the impressive Ella McLaughlin who broke up the field from Centre Half Back and got a goal for her efforts. There was also points from Saints Captain Anna OKane and Orla Lemon which helped the Ballymena girls into an early lead. However an early turning point in the game was a superb penalty save from Orlagh McNally who stood strong to save the St Johns effort from the spot. McNally had a superb game with impressive kicking and saves throughout the game.
HT All Saints 2-03 St Johns 0-2
St Johns weren’t going down without a fight and their dangerous forwards while well marshalled by an excellent Saints defence were still eating into the deficit. 2 Quick goals didn’t help the nerves of the All Saints travelling support, but each time St Johns thought they were back in the game the Slemish Park side managed to strike back quickly. Anna O’Kane then stepped up when her team needed her and scored 1-02 just as St. Johns were getting back into the game. At the other end the defence were superb, Ellla McLaughlin and Aimee Kerr led the way and were very well supported by Iseult O’Loan, Abigail McLarnon, Erin White & Maria Mitchell while Kate Hasson got through a power of work in midfield. Erin Holmes came on as a sub and immediately scored a great point and the Saints bench all contributed well when called upon. The final whistle was met with celebrations from the All Saints girls and while St Johns will be disappointed with the result they did themselves and their supporters proud.
Well done to All Saints Senior Camogs who won their semi-final with a great display against Davitt’s GAC. The girls now have a final to look forward to in a couple of weeks.
