Ulster camogie – 2020 Bridie McMenamin Shield quarter-final
Creggan (Antrim) 4-13 Éire Óg (Tyrone) 0-10
CREGGAN advanced to a semi-final meeting next Saturday with Derrynoose after this comfortable win in Carrickmore on Saturday in the 2020 Bridie McMenamin Shield quarter final .
An early goal and a point from Susan McElwee set them on their way, but Creggan in most areas of the pitch simply were much stronger than the Éire Óg girls. Once they got themselves a six points’ lead by the first water break it was going to take something special to stop them.
Midfielder Aoife McAteer and Antrim minor All-Ireland forward Evanne Martin were the stand-out players for Creggan, while top-scorer Aoibhinn Daly, Ailise Coyle, Aislinn Hackett and Leanne McKernan worked hard to match them
Martin’s accuracy from frees was a key ingredient of the victory and she managed to log in seven points during the opening half which ended in a 1-8 to 0-3 advantage to the Antrim side. Aoibhinn Daly was the only player to get on the mark for Éire Óg during the first half.
Ella McAteer and Martin added goals during the third quarter as Creggan increased their lead while Ruby Marie Rice completed the scoring with a late fourth goal, just after Éire Óg had scored three points in a row.
Creggan will have home venue for the semi-final against Derrynoose this Saturday.
Creggan : Evanne Martin 1-11, 0-9 frees, Susan McElwee 1-1, Ella McAteer 1-0, Ruby Marie Rice 1-0, Ciara McCollam 0-1.
Éire Óg: Aoibhinn Daly 0-8, 5 frees, Ailise Coyle 0-1, Leanne McKernan 0-1
