Junior Championship article has attracted a lot of interest

Earlier this week, following a facebook message from Eire Og man, Conor McKenna we decided to put together a record of Junior Football championship winners in Antrim, something that has never been done to the best of my knowledge.

We asked readers of the Saffron Gael to let us know when their team won it and slowly but surely the list is increasing and hopefully we will finish up with an accurate record of our JFC winners.

Amongst those who contacted me was Robert Bannon, formerly from Larne but now living in Swatragh to tell me that Larne had won the JFC in 1922 and on request he sent me the above photograph which had appeared in the Irish News.

Robert informs me that his grandfather played on that 1922 team and that they played their football in Cushendall as there was no GAA pitch in Larne at that time.

I thank Robert and all those who have contacted me so far and I would encourage anyone who has further info to get in contact with me and help me fill in the blanks. (The updated list can be viewed in the article ‘What Year did your club win the Junior Football Championship’) which is on the Saffron Gael site and includes contact details
