Glenravel 4-11 St Teresa’s 0-08
St Teresa’s might have fancied their chances today in the ACFL Div 2 game after an opening victory against Glenavy the previous week and the fact their opponents were put to the sword by newly promoted Rasharkin, but it didn’t work out that way as the home side cruised to victory at a wind swept Fr Maginn Park.

Glenravel chose to play with wind advantage in the first half and went on to dominate the opening thirty minutes going in 3-07 to 0-00 ahead on the short whistle. In fact, Joseph Rainey, in goals for St Teresa’s must have wondered what was happening as he had to deliver nineteen kickouts whilst his opposite number, Johnny Fyfe, the Glenravel netminder didn’t have a single kickout. Ryan McQuillan popped over the game’s opening score and when the same player was upended in front of goal, referee Colin Mallon had no choice but to award a penalty which Ryan Lennon finished with aplomb. Glenravel’s other goal scorers in the opening period were Eoin Hynds and David Higgins, who was making a welcome return to first team play. Glenravel’s other scorers were Conor McNeill, Callum Higgins and Ryan McQuillan again who brought the first half to an end with a fine score to leave the home team ahead 3-07 to 0-00. The city lads would have welcomed the sanctuary of the changing rooms to re-group.

As the second half got underway, Aiden O’Donnell opened for the home team and when Callum Higgins goaled two minutes later the game was well and truly over as a contest. St Teresa’s did get off the mark in the 2nd half with a free from John Mallon but Glenravel tagged on three further points to remain in a convincing lead by the 38th minute. With fifteen minutes left on the clock St Teresa’s did manage to get back into the game and indeed it was they who did all the scoring to the end of the game. Seven unanswered points from John Mallon, John Erskine, Mark Small, Luke Cassin, Darren McCann and two from Niall McCann put some respectability on the scoreboard but it was all too late as referee Colin Mallon called time with the home team convincing winners on a 4-11 to 0-08 scoreline.
