Football Fixtures (Sunday 4th April)

Gerordie McGuckin takes a look at Sunday’s football Fixtures and makes his predictions.

The football leagues continues at pace this Sunday after the scramble of players and match officials to escape the gathering gloom on Wednesday’s evening games.

Division One (2.00pm)

St Brigid’s v St Gall’s

Life has not been at all kind to St Gall’s this season and the Milltown side endured another reversal last time when the visiting Johnnies took home the points.

The Blues are on their travels this time as they nip over to the South side of the city to meet up with St Brigid’s.

The home side lost out to an in form St Enda’s last time and they will return to Musgrave Park for the visit of St. Gall’s.

The home side will start this one as firm favourites as their visitors continue on their team building programme but there might not be too much in it.

O’ Donovan Rossa v St Mary’s Aghagallon

Rossa finished on level terms up at Hannahstown last time in an honourable draw with the Lamh Dearg men and will return to their Shaw’s road base in this one as they welcome Aghagallon.

Rossa opened their account in round one when they gained the verdict over St Enda’s and will look to add another brace of points in this one.

Aghagallon had a good 2021 campaign making it all the way to a couple of county finals and although outpointed in the senior championship they brought home their first minor title.

The St Mary’s men will travel with a couple of points in the locker but they may struggle to add another brace in this one with a home win anticipated.

Gort na Mona v St Enda’s Glengormley

Gort na Mona have struggled to make impact thus far in the 2022 season. They remain without a point following three defeats and back on home turf they will look for improvement form the visit of St Enda’s.

St Enda’s recorded a good win last time over St. Brigid’s to retain a spot high in the table and they will start as firm favourites to follow with another victory at Enright Park.

Kickham’s Creggan v Lamh Dhearg

Creggan recovered from a reversal up at Hightown in round two to gain a full return of the points in Toome and a win over old rivals Cargin.

A big confidence booster for the Kickham’s men and the reigning county champions will return to home base to welcome Lamh Dhearg to the Staffordstown Road.

Lamh Dearg shared the points in their previous encounter when they finished on terms with the visiting Rossa and they will travel to the South West seeking better but Creggan will start as favourites and they may well collect the points.

Tir na nOg Randalstown v St Mary’s Ahoghill

This all country affair sees the reigning Intermediate champions Tir na nOg play hosts to the men from Ahoghill in what promises to be a keen contest.

The Whitehill Blues opened their division one account with a win on the opening day but have struggled to add any points since but they will hope for a positive return in this one.

Ahoghill have struggled for a while but The Cloney men did open their account last time when they proved too strong for the visiting Gort na Mona and they will travel to Randalstown looking for a similar return.

This looks like a close one with the experience of the St Mary’s men possibly making the difference.

Division Two (2.00pm)

St Ergnat’s Moneyglass v St Mary’s Rasharkin

Moneyglass had a disappointing 2021 but under new management the St Ergnat’s men have flown from the start traps this term.

They remain undefeated in the present campaign with three wins in a row and they will be expected to gain another couple of points from the visit of Rasharkin.

Rasharkin opened the season well with a win over Glenravel but the Dreen men have struggled to add further points and this looks another tough assignment for them.

Michael Davitt’s v St Joseph’s Glenavy

Following an opening round defeat to St. Teresa’s,  Glenavy have recorded back to back wins over Dunloy before their local derby over Aldergrove on Wednesday night.

They will look to continue in such positivity again as they travel to Belfast with a date with Michael Davitt’s.

Davitt’s have started well this term and have shredded the ‘enigmatic’ tag in style remaining unbeaten to date.

The form book in 2022 would point to a home win and all things being equal Davitt’s may well collect another couple of points.

St James Aldergrove v Con Magees Glenravel

Aldergrove started their 2022 campaign with back to back victories but lost to parish rivals Glenavy last day out.

The Crumlin men will hope to get back to winning ways again as Con Magees visit.

Glenravel have just one win to date proving too strong for St Teresa’s in round two after losing to Rasharkin in round one and enduring a similar fate last timefrom the visit of Moneyglass and this does look another tough assignment.

St Paul’s v All Saint’s Ballymena

St Pauls lead the way in division 2 with an unbeaten record to date. They drew with Davitt’s in the opening round and they have continued unbeaten and will look forward to another stern test as All Saint’s visit Shaw’s Road.

All Saint’s took time to acclimatise this term but the Ballymena side performed well in the Ulster league which preceded  their first division two win at the expense of Ardoyne but they will do well to get anything from this one.

Cuchullian’s Dunloy v St Teresa’s

Although they did perform well in their opening round win over Glenavy St Teresa’s have failed to follow suit and they will travel to Dunloy seeking a second win at the expense of the Cuchullian’s.

The home side have recorded a couple of wins to date and the present climate would suggest that they may well add another couple of points from this one.

Division Three (2.00pm)

Wolfe Tones v Laochra Loch Lao

Wolfe Tones have one win from four starts to date but will fancy recording their second victory from the visit of Laochra Loch Lao

St Gall’s (3) v St Comgall’s Antrim

St Gall’s have fared more than well to date but they may well struggle to get anything from the visit of Naomh Comhghall.

Cardinal O’ Donnell’s v St Patrick’s Lisburn

This one involves the current second and third placed sides in the division with Lisburn entering the fray as favourites and likely winners, but this may well be a close one.

St Agnes v St Malachy’s

St Malachy’s gained the verdict over Wolfe Tones last time and the men from the markets may well follow suit in this one as they visit Woodlands and meet up with the Aggies.

Eire Og v Patrick Pearses

Eire og have started well and with five points already gained the South Belfast side can collect another couple from the visit of Pearses but this one could go either way.
