Shane Ui Neill’s Glenarm were hosted by back to back 2017/2018 All Ireland Senior Hurling Club Champions Cuala in Dalkey, Dublin on Saturday 2nd April.
Shane Ui Neill’s travelled missing 3 of their panel who were also in Dublin but at Parnell Park with Antrim U20 squad for their Leinster U-20 HC Round 1 game v Laois
Cuala, one of the largest GAA clubs in County Dublin with over 3,200 active members has 5 senior hurling teams competing in the Dublin Go Ahead Adult Hurling leagues. Shane Ui Neill’s played against Cuala’s 3rd team squad in a preseason friendly for the Glenarm club.

The match was played at the Clubs Shanganagh park pitch. Despite heavy rain being forecast, the sun shone as the teams exchanged a point a piece in the opening 10 minutes. The Glenarm club found some rhythm, enjoying the early exchanges to go 0-4 to 0-1 ahead. At the halfway point the journey to Dublin hadn’t shown any ill effects as that lead was stretched to 0-6 to 0-2. Cuala who are 3 games into their league campaign weren’t going to let the Glenarm club have it all their own way and fought back to level the game at 0-8 to 0-8 with 10 minutes to go. Shane Ui Neill’s showed they still know how to win games and closed out the match with 2 more points to leave the final score Cuala 0-8, Shane Ui Neill’s 0-10.
The match was played with great spirit and players from both teams met up afterwards for food and drink closer to the clubs headquarters in Dalkey. There, 3 time All Ireland winner, current All Star and Cuala midfield Ace Jennifer Dunne met the players and coaching staff to share her experiences of both winning and losing with Club and County.

The day was rounded off with both teams players/coaches getting together to watch the Cork v Waterford Div 1 Hurling final in the local pub and making plans for the return leg back up in the Feystown.
