Cuhendall beat Loachra Oga in high scoring game

Antrim Under 20 Hurling League

Cushendall 4-13 Na Loachra Oga 3-13

Cushendall started their Under 20 Hurling Championship campaign with a win over the Glenarrife/ Cushendun combination Na Lochra Oga in Cushendall on Tuesday evening. In a closely contested  contest the Ruairi Og withstood a late fight back by their opponents to see out the win.

After a closely fought opening quarter Cushendall pushed ahead with five points without reply through Josheph McLaughlin, Sean McKenna, Ciaran Magill, Pearse McKeegan and Padraig McKillop, which helped them to a 1-10 to 0-6 half time lead, the goal coming in first half injury time from Colm McKeegan.

Na Loachra Oga had their best spell of the game in the third quarter as they started the second half with points from Shea McDonnell and Mickey O’Boyle, plus a goal from Seanie McInosh on 34 minutes to cut the gap to just two points. Joe McLaughlin pulled a point back for Cushendall but two more points by McIntosh left just a point between the sides.

A Joe McLaughlin point put two between the sides again, before two quick goals from Darach Bradley and Colm McKeegan gave them back control. Points from Patrick McIlwaine and McIntosh (2), plus a Michael O’Boyle goal had the game back in the balance, but a Joe McLaughlin goal five minutes from time gave Cushendall a bit of breathing space. Going into injury time a John V Morgan goal brought Loachra Oga back to within two points, but Ciaran Magill pointed for the home side to seal the win.
