Mount St Michael’s at the double

Cumann na mBunscol Hurling 7’s

Mount St Michael’s Randalstown completed a SW Antrim Allianz Cumann na mBunscol hurling and football double by clinching the 7 a side hurling cup at Tir na nOg

In beautiful, sunny conditions a large attendance gathered for what turned out to be a wonderful days hurling, with plenty of matches for all involved.

In the group stages it was nip and tuck the whole way with guests Gaelscoil an Chaistil making the early running in group one and eventually emerging as group winners.

Over in group two St Brigid’s Ballymena grew in confidence as the day went on, winning all four of their matches, ensuring a semi final slot.

The Semi finals saw a nip and tuck game between Mount St Michael’s and Gaelscoil an Chaistil, with the Randalstown school emerging victorious, whilst St Oliver Plunkett’s Toome overcame the St Brigid’s challenge.

The final was keenly contested with great skill and determination on show. Mount St Michael’s emerging victorious to cap a great year for the school.

The shield final saw Millquarter paired against Mary Queen of Peace Glenravel in what was probably the most exciting and even game of the day with several periods of extra time needed to separate them. The Glenravel School emerged victorious in the end against their spirited and skilled opposition.

Congratulations to all involved and it is clear that hurling is alive and well in South West Antrim.
