Cushendall come back from the brink

Ruairi Og Cushendall 5-14 (29) Con Magees Glenravel: 2-22 (28)

Cushendall fought back from six points down two minutes from the end of normal time to eventually beat Glenravel after extra time in Tuesday evening’s McCaughan Cup semi-final at Pairc Mhuire, Cushendall. When Glenravel hit eight points in a row between the 40th and 52nd minutes to open a six point gap they appeared to be on course to seal a final spot. They still held that lead with just two minutes of normal time left to play, but Cushendall’s ability to grab goals at vital times was to prove vital and they came back with a goal from Kark McKeegan and points from Cormac McClafferty and McKeegan (2) to tie up the scores by the 63rd minutes. The Ruairis actually had the chance to seal the win in normal time but McKeegan was off target and so the game went to extra time.

With both teams only managing one score apiece in the first period of extra time the scores were still even going in the second half. Two points apiece in the next five minutes meant they could not be separated but with just three minutes left for play Cushendall struck for their fifth goal of the game through Donal Natty McNaughton, and though Glenravel came back with two more points from midfielder Conor Deery time was up and the Ruairis held on for the win
